2 cameras.
3 generations.
This is a family’s journey from the Julian Alps to the Rocky Mountains, and the impressions made along the way. Before these cameras were mine, they belonged to the 2 generations before me. The photographs they left behind were made in Slovenia, then part of Yugoslavia. They hold a landscape, a family, and a way of looking that I have inherited.
In 1968, my grandfather purchased 2 35mm cameras in Dresden, Germany, including a Leicaflex. That same year, he purchased a remote ranch in Colorado. It was a place for our family to be together, and a place that reminded him of the mountains of home, Slovenia.

The thread continues
2 cameras and 3 generations have brought our family to the Mountain West. I am now the owner of those cameras, carrying forward the same thread of place, memory, and attention.
My eye gravitates toward the things my grandfather loved: mountain peaks, flowers like his favorite edelweiss, and fly fishing. In what catches my attention, I find echoes of his way of seeing.
My work is an homage to that thread. It runs through every discipline of my creative practice, through the spaces I design, the images I make, and the things I gather along the way.
On my recent journeys back to Slovenia, I have taken these cameras with me. Looking through them, I return to the mountains of home with the eyes of my own generation.
