The waterfront of Lady Bird Lake is a unique edge, the mediator between the urban built environment and the 'natural' relief of the lake. Though manmade, the lake winds through the city, dividing it while acting as its spine and identity. The proposed event center must first and foremost activate the water's edge, multidirectionally.

Pause

Today the lake is traced in parallel, runners and families circling the hike and bike trail without pause. To create that pause, a series of multi-height pavilions and studios is joined by a dynamic roof. Performance volumes run parallel to the street, formal and monumental; practice studios step down with the terraced landscape, single-height at entry and opening to double height toward the lake.
